The resources in this section are designed to help you with your NCEA assignments on topics related to censorship. They've been created specifically for students and will be updated as new things happen. If you would like to suggest a resource on a particular film or game for this site, or have any other suggestions for resources, please feel free to contact us.
On this page you can keep up-to-date with censorship news through our monthly blog 'The Censor's Log'; and we'll list new resources as they are added to the site, like case studies or a censor for a day report.
In this section you'll find case studies about classified publications. The publications (mostly films or games) have been chosen because they highlight a particular aspect of the censorship system such as public consultation (Out of the Blue) or films submitted by members of the public (Happy Feet).
Twice a year the Classification Office runs an event for senior high school students called Censor for a Day. On these pages, you'll find out where the next events will be held, and you'll be able to read reports of previous events.
On this page you'll find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions such as 'How do you censor the internet?', ' Who are the stakeholders in films?' and 'What is the significance of censorship of a particular film for New Zealand society?'
On this page you'll find information on some of the other resources the Classification Office produces such as classification label posters and brochures which retailers' staff and customers to better understand the censorship system.
On this page you'll find links to sites we think might be useful for your NCEA censorship assignments.
On this page you'll find an alphabetical list explaining some of the jargon and specialised terms used on this site.
